Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure the family of Ford, they were looked after by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. When she was a infant, Ford struggled with obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by word associations. Ford started acting in her teens, and was a member of the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after her fourth application she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford didn't complete her degree in 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first television appearance in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was seen in television programs such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined the company's season 2000-2001. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's repertoire in 1996.
