
Rachel Keller is a fictionalized character in The Ring movie series. The character was developed by writer-producer Ehren Kruger, and played by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two and shares a lot of similarities with Reiko Asakawa, the protagonist of the original Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist trying to figure out ways to escape the death penalty after viewing a video that was cursed that she came across while investigating the death of her niece. Rachel must dig into the history of Samara Morgan after her son is diagnosed with an unidentified illness. Ruth asks Rachel Keller as an investigative journalist to find out the truth behind Katie's death. Rachel is told by her sister Ruth that she found Katie's disfigured body inside the closet. She also revealed that Katie died from a heart attack. Katie's friends inform Rachel about the legend behind the tape that was cursed and Katie's friend Becca was taken to an institution after seeing Katie's demise. Katie's boyfriend and her two friends were killed in bizarre accidents that same night around 10 pm. Rachel is able to travel to Shelter Mountain Inn and stays at Cabin 12, which is the identical cabin that Katie and her friends saw the videotape they believed was cursed. Rachel locates the tape, and after it is finished, the phone calls. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is identified as Noah Clay as a video analyst by her ex-boyfriend. Rachel finds out later that Aidan Noah's son saw the tape as Noah called her. He tells Rachel that Noah believes Rachel. Rachel is able in order to determine the whereabouts of the lighthouse. It was on Moesko Island. Anna Morgan, a cursed horse breeder, appeared on the tape. Rachel found out that Anna had an adopted son named Samara who was capable of burning disturbing images into the bodies and minds of humans, animals and other objects. Rachel has to go to Anna's widower Richard when she begins to ask questions regarding Samara.
